The fullest version of the Associated Press’s Suns-Spurs Game 1 recap includes a pretty masterful quote from Shaquille O’Neal, who suffered through early foul trouble due to some offensive foul calls.
“I just wanted to play aggressive, but the floppers prevailed today. Amare and myself are going to continue to play aggressive,” O’Neal said of his foul trouble. “Hopefully those guys will compete rather than just fall down.”
Shaq spent too much time in the East if he honestly thinks the Spurs are going to stop drawing charges. That’d be like asking Dwight Howard to stop dunking or Calvin Booth to stop being handsome. Taking the blow and flying onto their backs is part of the very fabric which makes the Spurs the Spurs.
Spurs blog Pounding the Rock responds to Shaq’s charges in appropriately inappropriate fashion, with plenty of F-bombs and the comparison of Shaq’s defense on Tim Duncan to a paraplegic trying to guard George Gervin. I don’t want to give away the ending, so go read it for yourself, unless you’re easily offended.
